On Australia's Disappearing Barn Owls

The controlling of rodent populations due to baiting does come at a huge price
Australia's barn owls are becoming endangered due to their killing and eating of dying poisoned rats and mice
That for the control of rodents barn owls with their lives do pay
To even think of does make one feel sad true to say
In areas of cropping and grain growing rodent numbers out of control
And poisoning of it's natural prey on barn owls taking it's toll
The barn owl who kills a dying poisoned rat or mouse does seal it's own fate
To save the barn owls of Australia from extinction it may well be too late
Mice and rats to the barn owl are it's natural prey
But sadly the white owls of the night seldom seen out by day
Their numbers are dwindling and they are becoming quite rare
As fans of the barn owls are now all too aware
Of late country people at night the hoarse cry of the barn owl seldom hear
That they are on the decrease is obviously clear.
