I have never laid claim to the title of poet
I leave it to the literary critics to those they see worthy of poetic note
Since they are the people paid to criticize
To the poetic social rank their criticisims give rise
It is the literary critics who write for newspapers Worldwide
The worth of any writer of any genre decide
In poetry the rhymers the literary critics ignore
The non rhymers they place to the poetic fore
Though no shortage of rhymers in any village or city or town
In the twenty first century no hope for any rhymer of poetic renown
Few rhymers nowadays ever short listed for a major literary prize
Rhyme has had it's innings as most would realize
In all forms of literature change is happening fast
And in poetry rhyme has become a thing of the past
The well paid literary critics have helped in the demise of rhyme
As a form of poetry of another time.
