It is true that by twenty five years he had outlived his long term wife
And that he was in his mid nineties and had lived a long life
And that he had a good innings and his time had come to die
But the ageist are people who believe their own lie
For when their sort grow old and their best days are in the long gone
It is a known fact they too wish to live on
A truism about the ageist that is often told
That they too are ageing and they will grow old
And they will not like it when young ageists of them will say
They no longer count since they have had their day
It is true that his grandchildren are no longer young
But surely his praises do deserve to be sung
Since to many people he was a good friend
And he battled for life right up to his end.
