Masked Lapwing

Quite territorial in a noisy way
And at nesting time quite aggressive of them one can say
In their breeding Season they do not even treat their own kind as a friend
And their eggs and their young they do vigorously defend
With a would be nocturnal predator to their ground nest near
Their shrill like loud calls at night one often hear
With dark on head and neck long yellow wattles and unders of white
They shriek at human, beast or bird who venture near their nest site
In their nest just a simple scrape on the bare ground
The female lay four olive blotched eggs that blend in well with the landscape around
No other species of bird to them look or act the same
And spur winged plover for them is another often used name
In town parks and in the countryside in their range they are a common sight
And in their breeding Season in late Winter and Spring one often hear them at night.
