Going back the years more than five decades in time
John O' Mahony left Inchileigh near his physical prime
To try out his luck in the big World out there
One of the migrants from Millstreet who became a success story elsewhere
A grandfather he lived in Harrow in Middlesex with Bea his wife
Far from Clara mountain he lived the last days of his life
In his early to mid seventies one worthy of parting tears
Far from Duhallow he lived his best years
His late dad Denis and now his brother Jerry to Clara Mountain had and have the deed
But to climb on the old hill permission from Jerry you do not need
Since the Mahonys as ever are generous with the sharing of their land
And permission to climb Clara of anyone never demand
John O' Mahony often climbed Clara Mountain as a boy
And doubtless to view the green countryside from the high ground he did enjoy
And though good memories of the past in the migrant remain
Sadly John O' Mahony will never climb on Clara again
We are born to mortality in truth one can say
And for all of us there is a last night night and day
And though the last breath of life from John O' Mahony has gone
In all who knew and knew of him good memories of him will live on.
