A June Evening In Port Fairy

Where the Moyne waters crawl deep and silent to the Pacific shore
In an unbroken journey that is forever more
On the tall norfolk pine trees beneath a sky of grey
The little ravens are cawing in Port Fairy today
The harsh calls of the ibis settling in for the night
Nature's diurnal birds most vocal in the fading twilight
On a June evening by Griffith  Island Winter is in the breeze
The weather temperature down to a cool six degrees
By the ocean bound river near Port Fairy Town
On most Winter evenings you will not see a sundown
As the ravens and the ibis grow silent on the trees
The only sound one hear is the soughing of the breeze
And the nocturnal creatures that sleep in daylight
Come out from their hiding places for the night.
