Since Nature poets of his calibre are rather rare
But who would wish to swap the lifetime he lived for his enduring fame
His was a huge price to pay for becoming a great literary name
The story of Clare's life is a story of tears
He died in Northampton Mental asylum where he had lived for many years
Though his poems are loved, read and recited by many today
His price for fame was a huge price to pay
Today he is arguably England's greatest Nature poet
Yet in his lifetime he was not seen as worthy of literary note
He was one who lived and died in poverty
But he was one who made his own history
His poetic legend has grown over time
And he lives today in his memorable rhyme.
