The Last Of The Yangery Tribe

A place in the coastal Moyne Shire named in their honour today
The last of the Yangery Tribe where do their bones lay?
Colonization it is said they did not survive
Not one of them today is known to be alive
Perhaps some of them died in massacres and most of them were wiped out by colonizers disease
It is said that some of their women lived with and raised the children of shipwrecked Portugese
The last of their tribe of the coastal countryside
None of them left today in their  history to take pride
They lived and socialized as tribal people do
And hunted the wallaby and grey kangaroo
And in Summer evenings in the shade of the trees
They danced and sung and played their didgeridoos in their corroborees
This is going back in time two hundred years or so
And the last of  of the Yangery Tribe died years ago.
