On Black Swans

They sing in flocks as they travel by sky
Big dark birds with their long necks outstreteched as they fly
To a shallow lake somewhere nearby
Of humans black swans never do seem that shy
In high platform nest of vegetation in shallow water lined with down that to build takes more than a day
Four to ten greenish large eggs the female bird lay
Their grey cygnets the male and the female protect and defend
And for the love of their young family they treat none as a friend
Using  their long necks from the bed of  shallow lakes with their strong bills they pull acquatic vegetation to eat
What is unpalatable to most water birds to them a tasty treat
Red bills and long necks attractive and graceful birds to behold
In their wild state they live to be ten to fifteen years old
On shallow lakes birds one often does see
In large flocks or small groups of two or three.
