Never more to be found he threw them in a rubbish bin
And memories of war from him refuse to fade
He never attends any war street parade
He was a young hero in a war far away
Though on this he does not have anything for to say
Nowadays he never wears his country's flag
He feels patriotism is not worth a brag
In his mid seventies his best days long gone
And of war only bad memories in him live on
For rescuing a wounded comrade from the line of enemy fire a medal for bravery he won
He did save a mother years of grief for what would have been her dead son
Alcohol due to his war related traumas the ruination of his life
And cost him the love of the woman who was to be his wife
He conquered his alcohol addiction a decade ago
But his bad memories of war remain as his mental foe
A tall slightly stooped grey haired man to many not known
Often see him walking in the park always on his own
The horrors of war with him does stay
And in him will remain until his life's final day.
