Joan From Macroom

In the gardens in the mid Cork Town of Macroom
The roses on the rose trees are in full bloom
The Town where Joan first saw the light of day
From where she now lives in distance far away

A widowed great grandmother in her eighty fourth year of life
To her late husband Aussie Jim she was a good wife
Jim died of stomach cancer to many a lethal foe
He breathed his last in March eight years ago

One ageing with grace shoulder length wavy grey hair
For her years she is one who has beauty rare
One thing of the past that she does retain
The distinctive accent of mid Cork with her does remain

Though into her eight decade she does not look that old
For one of her years quite attractive to behold
So down to earth and friendly in her there is nothing that is vain
A great loss to Macroom has been south west Victoria's gain

In June in mid Cork it is a lovely time of year
The voice of the cuckoo such a joy for to hear
But she feels happy today where her great grandchildren into young adulte grow
Far from where the babbling waters of Sullane does flow.
