The Berkshire Pig

As black as the mud that she does wallow in
Yet she is one who is untainted by sin
For her owners home for to live in too big
She lives in the shed in the backyard the old berkshire pig

She was the pet of the daughter of the farmer and his wife
The reason she has been rewarded the privilege of living a long life
Their daughter she lives and works in the city today
A three hours journey by car on the busy freeway

For a sow to become pregnant of a male pig she is in need
And the farmer has dairy cows pigs he does not breed
He bought the pig from his neighbour for his daugter as a pet
One of the things in life he has lived to regret

The damage she does in their backyard hard for him to forgive
But his absent daughter loves her pet so with this he must live
And the daughter he loves he dare not upset
As she may not forgive him if she did sell her pet

At the damage she does in the backyard the farmer not overjoyed
She roots with her nose and the flower beds by her destroyed
She roots in the yard and wallows in the mud every day
But all free range pigs do behave in this way

As black as the mud that she does wallow in
But she is a creature who lives free of sin
She sleeps in the shed in the farmers backyard
On this berkshire pig life has never been hard.
