On Boobook Owls

Out there on a gum tree in the calm of the night
A boobook owl is calling in the moonlight
A bird seldom seen in the bright lamp of day
Mopoke mopoke is all it has to say
A small brown owl with green yellowish eyes
That at night hunt for insects and birds up to half of it's size
The female lay white eggs two or sometimes three
In her nest well hidden from view in hollow of old tree
In leafy trees they roost by day
And if discovered by crows or magpies from their territory they drive them away
Most birds mob aerial predators roosting in their territory
So to move them on harass them quite aggressively
At night their book book or mopoke call one often does hear
They render on tall trees to where you are somewhere near.
