On Australian Magpies

The birds who do sing every day of the year
Their warbling is always a joy for to hear
The black and white crow sized birds who do not have a lookalike
Are not related to Eurasian magpies since in reality they are piping shrike
During their breeding Season they treat none as a friend
With aggression their nesting trees they do defend
They even attack humans who to their breeding territory venture too near
To defend their borders the Australian magpies are birds without fear
In late Winter to late Spring they often sing at night
How nice to hear them warbling in the moonlight
They have a huge range Australia wide
And they live in town parks and in the countryside
Quite familiar birds with ways of their own
To every Australian they are well known.
