Grey Currawong

Crow sized birds with strong thick bills of a darkish grey
Quite different to most birds in their secretive way
Quite wary if of a human they do catch sight
They are quick to disappear from view when taking to flight
Once seen and once heard one cannot get them wrong
They have a pleasant enough metallic sort of song
To the strepera family of birds they do belong
And their common name for them is grey currawong
On flat nest of sticks high on branch of tree
The female lay buff blotched eggs of  two sometimes three
They kill and eat small birds and on large insects prey
Unlike their cousins pied they do not live in large flocks and are not numerous in any way
Known by their appearance and their clinking song
Once seen and once heard you never again get them wrong.
