Old Jim from Galway in the pub often talks of his young love Noreen
She lived with her middle aged mum and dad in their cottage by the pebbly bohreen
With wavy shoulder length hair of brown and eyes blue as ripe sloes of September
She was the first love of his life and her today he does remember
In the grove by her parents cottage they played games like hide and seek they did have so much fun together
As children they were such good friends than neighbours more like sister and brother
Though her he never hugged or kissed he was too young then for such passion
And that was in the olden days when childhood hugging was not in fashion
Her parents their cottage sold and took her with them to England's biggest City
In private he wept for her the tears of lost love and of his heartache none knew of him to pity
In his twenties he migrated to Australia and in Melbourne met his wife Karen
She could not bear children sad for them both since she was born to life as barren
Last year Karen passed away though she had not been feeling sickly
From a massive heart attack she collapsed and she did die rather quickly
They had been married for fifty years for her he shed his tears of sorrow
But as is often said of grief it does lessen with each tomorrow
In his late seventies Jim from Galway a nice old bloke grey haired he does seem a bit lonely
One who has not known of many loves in his life two females only
Karen his wife of fifty years last year her journey for her ended
And Noreen his neighbour long ago as a boy a young girl he befriended.
