Illowa On An April Night

Out there in the paddock in the calm of the night
A dog fox is barking in the moonlight
Perhaps hoping than a female in heat of his kind would be near
And the need in his cries for sexual passion that she will hear
Of the scarcity of females of his kind he is aware
From poisoning and shooting foxes in this part of the countryside rare
In a voice quite distinctive that never sounds shrill
A boobook owl is calling in nearby Tower Hill
In Illowa on an Autumn night nocturnal creatures out and about
In their voices of their presence they leave none in doubt
A creature in daylight one never hear or see
The harsh cries of a male possum on a moonlit gum tree
In Illowa in April on a calm Autumn night
Nature's nocturnal creatures are vocal under the moonlight.
