When the rains of Spring on the Boggeraghs melt the snow
Some of Duhallow flooded from the Blackwater overflow
Kilometres of countryside covered in flood waters such a sight to see
And something for to live on in the memory
The fields by the Blackwater River covered in flood waters of brown
Where the big waterway rages on it's way towards Mallow Town
From it's birthplace in Sliabh Luachra on towards Youghal to the Atlantic shore
On a journey of eighty kilometres or more
The most of the waterways in Sliabh Luachra and Duhallow and north Cork into the Blackwater flow
And swollen by heavy rain the big river into a huge waterway does grow
A memorable sight in the memory a lifetime to remain
One of Munster's biggest rivers swollen by heavy rain
When the rains of Spring melt the snow on the the Boggeragh's hills
The lesser waterways of the high country the flooded streams and rills
Flow to the rivers that flow to the Blackwater on the flatter ground
The fields by the big river are flooded for kilometres around.
