It does seem a pity in truth one can say
That due to extensive farming wombats are extinct in coastal south west Victoria today
And those into wildlife conservation for awhile have been aware
That in most parts of mainland Australia the Country's largest burrowing marsupials are becoming rare
In coastal south west Victoria wombats nowadays one does not see
As they did become extinct there in the mid twentieth century
In south western Victoria never more to be seen
To the ageing residents of the coastal lands just another memory of what has been
Sadly due to the destruction of their habitats and road deaths on the roads of the countryside
Nowadays wombats are becoming rare Australia wide
In many parts of the Country where they used to have been
Wombats nowadays are no longer seen
From the coastal paddocks of south western Victoria inland from the Pacific shore
Wombats have disappeared forever more.
