Giovanni

The accent he brought with him from far away
For as long as he lives in him will stay
Giovanni from Italy his hair silver grey
He will be eighty on his next birthday

Fifty years ago he married Kathy his Australian born and raised wife
A beautiful dark haired woman the great love of his life
But she died in childbirth he grieved for his loss
Sadly some do go through life bearing some cross

The grief at his wife's and baby's death lived in him for years
A sad memory today that brings him close to tears
He never partnered or remarried growing old on his own
Of the good and the bad times in life he has known

A likeable old fellow from a far away town
It has been many years since his hair was light brown
He will never again see the shores of Italy
And his first Hometown by the Adriatic Sea

In the townpark he is one i sometimes does see
He always does smile and say hello to me
Always on his own for his years he looks well
Of his life he does have one very sad story to tell.
