On Magpies Singing

The Beautiful warbling so pleasant to hear
Of the birds who do sing every day of the year
Of city and town parks and of the countryside
Birds familiar to everyone Australia wide
The black and white Australian magpies or piping shrikes Australia's own
For their beautiful flute like warbling songs widely known
On their breeding Season they even sing at night
How nice to hear them fluting in the moonlight
Like all other birds song with them a territorial thing
It is not out of joy that the magpies do sing
To their neighbours of their own kind their messaage is clear
These are our borders and of them stay clear
Their beautiful warbling carrying in the breeze
Is a warning to their neighbours on the nearby trees.
