On Australian Magpies

The warbling flute like notes so pleasant to hear
Of the birds who do sing every day of the year
Australia's black and white magpies known for their beautiful song
Once seen and once heard them you never again can get wrong
On flat nest mostly of sticks high on branch of tree
That from the ground is never that hard to see
The female her blotched eggs to brood does lay
And the male from their nesting tree chase other birds away
Any other species of birds they never befriend
At all times of year their territory they defend
Familiar Australians with ways of their own
In their breeding Season to attack humans they have even been known
Near where humans live they are happpy to stay
These birds that one does hear and see every day.
