White Eared Honeyeaters

Honeyeaters of grey head, white patches on ears, dark throat, undersides yellow and back and tail green
In woodlands birds often heard though not often seen
Though once seen and once heard one never again gets them wrong
As they have a metallic cheery sort of song

As birds go one might say that they are strangers to fame
White eared honeyeaters for them is their common name
Of humans they do not show that much fear
When they see you like most birds do they do not quickly disappear

In cup nest of bark on fork of branch of tree
The female lay white eggs pink spotted of two or three
Noisy honeyaters with ways of their own
And so much about them does remain to be known

Once seen and once heard they live in memory
These birds i know of though seldom hear or see
They are not very plentiful their numbers seem few
But in this time of Climate Change this is nothing new.
