Millstreet's Greatest Greyhound Racing Success Story

As a ten year year old boy long before my physical prime
And this is going back more than six decades in time
In nineteen fifty seven Tanyard Champion was voted Ireland's track racing greyhound of the year
That this remains as Millstreet's greatest greyhound racing success story is obviously clear

Owned bred and trained by Pat Cashman of Tullig the champion fawn greyhound
His equal in Ireland then not to be found
The son of Champion Prince and  Knockeevan Tulip seldom knew of defeat
In greyhound racing in Ireland then the one to beat

Of Tanyard Champion's achievements Duhallow people felt proud
And the praises of Pat Cashman by many sung loud
But the school children back then are the aged of today
And time on our lives ever ticking away

Time it did become Tanyard Champion's foe
And Pat Cashman passed from life many years ago
But great moments in time in the memory remain
When we go to the past to remember again

Ireland's greatest track greyhound when in his prime day
And memories of such achievements a lifetime does stay
In nineteen fifty seven Pat Cashman's fawn speedster proved himself to be Ireland's best
And was never found to be wanting when put to the test.
