The friends of the wealthy in numbers do grow
But it is only the poor who of their true friends who do know
It is only when you do not have the price of a second hand car
That you will come to know of who your friends are
They know who their friends are the poor of the town
The people who stand by them though they are financially down
Your true friends will not forsake you when you are financially stuck
And you are feeling despondent and down on your luck
True friendship is not based on the power of money why otherwise pretend
The wealthy have many a fairweather friend
If you are doing financially well in life it is true to say
That your fairweather friends as your friends will stay
It is only when you cannot afford a second hand car
That you come to realize who your true friends are.
