Not the man that he was decades ago
Of late life has not been kind on poor Joe
In his prime years the best footballer in the town
Back then his was more than local renown
A grandfather in his mid sixties alzheimers has robbed him of his memories of life
He does not recognize his family or Kathy his wife
A shell of the man he used to be balding and grey
That life can be cruel only true to say
Often the recipient of honour and praise
In the nursing home in his locked bedroom he now spends his days
He has lost the great gift of memory
How very sad a thing for his friends and his wife and family
He cannot remember the glorious day
When for him there was a mighty hooray
When in the football final he kicked the winning score
Going back in time some three decades or more
In his prime years a man amongst men
But things for him have changed not for the better since then
Sitting on his chair in his bedroom staring at the wall
Without any memory in his brain at all.
