As human years go one who lived a long time
Eight decades ago Julia Murphy of Gortavehy was in her physical prime
At one hundred and six years of age she eventually passed away
In St Mary's Cemetery in Millstreet Town her last remains lay
One who deserves to be remembered in story and song
Few ever in Duhallow or Sliabh Luachra of her has lived as long
Until the end of her long lived life all of her faculties with her did remain
Memories of the long gone past she did retain
The life story of Julia deserves to be told
At the end of the twentieth century she was very old
She retained the great gift of memory a marvellous thing
And of many an old song knew the words of and did sing
For all of us from life there is a final release
The legendary Julia Murphy she now is at peace
One who was kind and compassionate and made many a friend
Her long life journey for her has come to an end.
