Red Wattlebirds

Large grey brown freckled honeyeaters with a harsh grating call
Among the many species of nectar eating birds one of the most common of all
With red wattles hanging from under their ears, thin curved bills and red eyes
By their voices and appearance not hard to recognize
Of human kind wary but not very shy
Red wattlebirds the name that they are known by
They do not treat any other species of honeyeater as a friend
With aggression blossoming trees they do defend
In saucer type nest of grass, twigs and bark in bush or on fork of tree
The female lay pink brown spotted eggs of two or sometimes three
Migratory in habit within their range they do travel far
In flocks you often hear and see them where flowering bushes are
Within their range they are well known
These large honeyeaters with ways of their own.
