On Hearing A Male Greenfinch

The song of a male greenfinch on a sunny November day
Bring back the memories of a place far away
Of green birds that are known for their wheezy like song
Once seen and once heard you never again get them wrong
Above their breeding territory in mid Spring the male birds display
On what is much similar to a butterfly flying in an undulating way
Their kind introduced to Australia going back a century or so
And in years of time this does seem long ago
People who know about birds have come to realize
That most birds by their appearance or song are not hard to recognize
And since in appearance and song they are different to most finch like birds is the reason why
That greenfinches are not hard to identify
With the sun in my eyes him i cannot see
The male greenfinch singing on a wattle tree.
