The song of a male blackbird so melodious and clear
A marvellous songster of the Spring of the year
Once seen and once heard one never again can get wrong
The golden billed blackbird with the beautiful song
Brought to Australia from England far away
In this southern Land a beloved songster of the Spring of today
In the southern dawn of a Spring day a pleasant voice to hear
To migrants that bring the homeland to them near
A voice that to many is a source for joy
That brings back memories of Springs as a young girl or boy
A voice that brings back good memories to them of the past
Though the clocks on their lives does keep on ticking fast
On a grey dawn in November in the prime of the Spring
How pleasant for to hear a male blackbird sing.
