A Character Of Millstreet Town

He was one who deserves to be remembered as he was one as large as life
One who did not have children or a partner or anyone to call a wife
He was one different to most others though no harm in him at all
His birth name was Cornelius Dennehy though he was better known as Snowball

Not good at sports or materially famous and his only claim to local renown
Is that he was a memorable character of Duhallow's old Millstreet Town
He was funny with a few drinks in and quite humorous in his likable way
At community gatherings in Millstreet he added some joy to our day

He worked for the Cork County Council going back in time decades ago
And it truly can be said of him that in life he did not make a foe
For he was quite a gentle fellow one who would not even harm a fly
He lives in the memories of all who did know him as a character of years long gone by

Every town needs a character like Con Dennehy though they may not know of a Worldwide fame
The World to live in would be boring if in all ways we all were the same
He did bring some humor to Millstreet on going back the decades of time
Today he is only remembered by those who did know him who have outlived their physical prime

All migrants have only the memories of what was and what used to be
Of people they knew or did know of in the flesh never more for to see
One hopes there are characters like him in every town of the World of today
For all of the joy that he brought to us mere words of praise him could not pay

If there is a Land they call Heaven in God's World way beyond the sky
Where good souls at death of the body  with wings for to live to does fly
Perhaps the keeper of soul records did say to Con Dennehy welcome to Heaven Snowball
We do need more laughter in our World it is the best tonic of all.
