He has to be non political and of him one can say
That he will not be homeless and hungry on his last night and day

That every visiting dignitary would most surely impress
A former member of the Irish Labour Party and a government minister for a spell
In life one can say of him for himself he has done well
You will never see in Aras an Uachtarain one of poverty street
Only the wealthy and the famous he is privileged to meet
He has been the President of Ireland of time for quite a span
The honorable Michael D Higgins in Ireland a well loved man
In his promotion of Ireland a good role he does play
And one can say of Michael D a good man in every way.
