This Is The Land

This is the Land of wallaby and kangaroo
And wombat, koala and many species of cockatoo
And many other species of parrots far too many to name
To be different from most Lands one of it's claims to fame

This is the Land of an old human race
Their links to this Country thousands of centuries does trace
Though they have some very sad stories to tell
To exist as a race they have done rather well

This is the Land of possums and gliders marsupials of the night
By day in tree cavities hidden from sight
And grey headed fruit bats who by day roost on trees in the town park
And raid the local orchards for fruit under night's cloak of dark

This is the Land of cassowary, kookaburra and pee wee
As well as homeland of the wattles, pittosporums and many species of eucalypt tree
And birds such as kookaburra and currawong
To this southern Country their sort belong

This is the Land where every day of the year
The warbling of the Australian magpie you hear
A Land different from other Lands in every way
Known to all as Australia in the World of today.
