When Jimmy Cronin Sang Mother Malone

His Holiday House shop was full of Millstreet supporters When Jimmy Cronin sang Mother Malone
A song of the man who often kissed his mother in law to be but never kissed the Blarney Stone
That evening the Millstreet under fourteen team he had been coaching had a big Duhallow Gaelic Football win
And Jimmy in song was releasing some of the joy he felt within

Jimmy was born in Dooneen in Millstreet where he grew into a man
In his twenties he migrated to New York where he lived and worked of time for quite a span
When he returned home he purchased a business in the West End of the Town of Millstreet
It became a spot where some locals at evening quite often did meet

Though a Cork man by birth and address Kerry his favourite team in Gaelic Football
He used to say Kerry forever and Kerry to answer the call
And though this did not please some Millstreet Cork supporters Jimmy to his thoughts remained true
To him Kerry were champion Gaelic Footballers and credit to them for this was their due

But Jimmy was loyal to Millstreet G A A he coached many a Millstreet under age football team
That he would coach them to Cork county glory in life for him an unfulfilled dream
There was so much for to like about him quite a character in his own way
Doubtless he is remembered in Millstreet by all who knew of him today

Jimmy Cronin is at peace forever among the dead of Millstreet he lay
He was such a memorable character quite distinctive in his own way
Time does take care of everybody does only seem true for to say
But Jimmy Cronin is remembered in Millstreet by all who knew of him today

A nice evening in the mid Summer in Jimmy Cronin's shop a happy football crowd
The Millstreet under fourteens had won a big football game in Duhallow and Jimmy felt joyous and proud
He was in the right mood for singing so he sang about Mother Malone
And of the young man who hugged and kissed her for the love of her daughter but never kissed the Blarney Stone.
