In November In Duhallow

The sun is not shining the sky looking grey
It is cold, wet and windy in Duhallow today
The Boggeraghs half cloaked in the grey fogs of rain
And brown storm water flowing fast in every field drain
Cattle in the farmyard sheds for their Winter stay
For five months at least to live on silage and hay
No leaves left to fall from bare deciduous trees
And the weather temperature just above zero degrees
In November in Duhallow a windy, wet and cold time of year
The songs of the birds one never does hear
In the subsiding flood of the rivers in the grey of the dawn
The salmon are swimming up current  to spawn
And the hungry rooks in the bare fields to each other call
In November in Duhallow in the dying days of the Fall.
