On Boobook Owls

In wooded places under the cloak of night
They search for small sleeping birds in the dim light
Medium sized brown grey striped birds known for their familiar call
By roosting small birds one of the most feared nocturnal predators of all
In hollow of tree two to three white eggs the female lay
Birds who roost in leafy tree in light of day
Sometimes other birds discover them on their roosting tree
And mob and drive them from their territory
At night their familiar calls re-echo in the sky
These nocturnal birds in their ways secretive and shy
In daylight birds that one does seldom see
Except when they are being mobbed by birds on their roosting tree
Nocturnal avian predators that hide from the daylight
Mopoke book book they call out in the night.
