Though you do not live as a stranger to poverty
You are better off living than in a hole in the ground
In darkness with earth under and above you and earth all around
You are in good health though financially down
One of the poorest people on your side of the town
The town's materially wealthiest man in a hospital bed dying
To say he would swap his life for your's would not be lying
A few more sunsets at most he will survive
All of his money will not keep him alive
In a few days from now he well may be dead
And of you better times may be ahead
He is too weak to go under another round of the surgeon's knife
And you have the two greatest gifts good health and life.
