She was the pride of the Parish when i was a boy
Wavy raven hair to her shoulders and eyes blue as ripened sloes
She was one of rare beauty the smiling Millstreet Rose
So friendly in her ways and free of conceit
She was one who was not to grrow old in Millstreet
On going back the years some six decades in time
In her early twenties then near her physical prime
The wanderlust in her for places far away
She went off to live in the U S of A
She would be in her eighties if living today
Did she marry or remain single i do not know to say
The children of the nineteen fifties now ageing women and men
And so many changes in Millstreet since then
The type of young woman most young men desire
She was one in Duhallow that many did admire
The memories of such beauty a lifetime remain
Cannot say if she returned to Duhallow again
The finest in Millstreet though there she did not stay
She is an octogenarian if living today.
