Today i would be a stranger in my first homeplace
Claraghatlea near Millstreet Town where i first saw light of day
Years ago the yearn for wander did lure me far away
From the old fields just west by the Rathmore road from Millstreet
In the green countryside where the waterways meet
Where i grew to love Nature as a young boy
And learning of her ways today i enjoy
Of this place of koala, echidna, wallaby and grey kangaroo
And emu, long billed corella and yellow tailed black cockatoo
I only have memories of the what used to be
And in fancy the bracken clad face of Clara i see
Like a sentinel of Duhallow ever looking down
On the green countryside and the homes of Millstreet Town.
