Of The What Used To Be

In years just seven short of my fourth score
I may never again climb on Claramore
And enjoy the views of the green countryside
Of Duhallow and Sliabh Luachra that stretch far and wide
Far beyond Millstreet Parish and beyond Rathmore and Knocknagree
And well into east Kerry as far as the eyes can see
Today the old memories remain evergreen
Of the beautiful sights that i have seen
When i was much younger decades ago
Time that rusts iron has become my foe
All i have are the memories of the what used to be
Mental pictures of natural beaauty that i did see
This is all today i have to retain
Of the what used to be but may not be again.
